UK STEPS Named a Distinguished Community Employer

Feb 16, 2015

The Richmond Campus recently recognized the UK STEPS program as a Distinguished Community Employer. The UK STEPS program works closely with the Richmond Campus offering employment to graduates of the medical assisting, medical billing and coding, medical office professional, and other programs.

According to UK STEPS employment consultant Elizabeth Walker, the STEPS program works as an internal staffing agency for the University of Kentucky. Medical program graduates may be placed on assignment anywhere within the UK Healthcare system, including Chandler Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Eastern State Hospital, the Kentucky Clinic, and Markey Cancer Center.

In the past year, Elizabeth estimates that she’s hired close to twenty Richmond Campus graduates. “Their clinical skills generally seem to be outstanding, as well as their administrative skills,” she said. “I look forward to hiring more graduates.”

Julie Collins, a recent graduate of the Richmond Campus, was hired by UK Steps. She has been placed in the University Health Services clinic, where she works as a registered medical assistant. Julie is excited about the transition that she’s made into the medical field in just two short years thanks to American National University and UK STEPS.  “It’s the first step to going forward into my new career,” she said of her work at UK.
